Quick Tips for U - August 31, 2013

Health:

Memorize something everyday.  It will keep your brain sharp and your memory functioning.
If memorizing isn't easy for you, start with something simple, like a rhyme, or song lyrics, then work up to quotes from some of your favorite writers, especially poets and don't forget science and history.

Wealth:

Use envelope system budgeting. Separate your spending into categories, (grocery, gas, rent, etc.) Place your money in each envelope and once it's empty-you must wait until the next month to spend in that category.

Style:
Use the Internet, to explore all the latest happenings in the world of clothes and accessories. You can browse through a number of websites that are associated with glamour. -  I find checking fashion on Amazon is a good place to start for basic ideas of new styles.  Prices are pretty good.

Diet:
I gradually removed junk food from my apartment.  I took one food at a time, like potato chips.  After a week of not having them, I was over the desire.  I followed that with removing all soda and sweet drinks.  I made jars of flavored water, orange juice squirted in distilled water, squeeze of lemon in another and I put a bit of Maple Syrup for a sugar like effect in one.  Once all major junk food was out of the apartment, I turned to what I am supposed to eat for better health and learned ways of serving fruits and vegetables to a point where I looked forward to eating them.

Exercise:
Low impact intervals of exercise can act as a powerful way to supercharge your health.  No need to spend time getting into gym clothes or driving to the gym and working out.  Do it at home, a walk or even turn on some up beat music and dance, dance, dance.

Spiritual:
Even if you aren't religious, you can still find time to commune with nature and feel a connection with your inner spirit. Sometimes silence brings on volumes of thoughts and ideas.

Labor Day's Quick Tips 4 U

Health:

Make a list of everything you know that promotes good health. (Read some of these earlier tips to help you.) Put a check mark next to any you do regularly. Circle any that you don't do very often. Put an X next to any you never do. Now spend a day or two thinking about what you don't do to be healthier and ask yourself why!

Wealth

Experts say you should save 10% of all your income regularly. Have that amount deducted from your checking account and put into a savings or investment account. When you get more income, increase the amount transferred. After a few months you won't notice the decrease in spendable income.

Many national corporations as well as more than 1 million families have benefited from Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University.

Diet:

Start your meal with a salad. Keep salad fixings crisping in the frig. Add a low fat dressing or use a little bit of olive oil and lemon juice and fresh herbs. Drink a glass of vegetable juice with the salad and you will have healthfully cut your appetite, and increased your servings of vegetables.  Yeah You.

Fashion and Style:

Wearing clothes too big will make you look bigger. A belt or scarf hanging down toward your legs will make them look longer. A solid color outfit is slimming.

Exercise:

Don't have time for a full workout? Incorporate it in your day. Stretch when dressing; squat when picking something up off the floor; reach for the ceiling anytime you are waiting; swing your arms when walking; commit to working out no matter how much time you have.

Beauty:No time for makeup. Tint your moisturizer with your foundation and smooth on. While waiting for it to dry, put on two coats of lipstick, touch your lips with clean fingers and blot on cheeks for blush. Sweep eyes with shadow and put on two coats of mascara. You are on your way and looking good.

Spirit:Make it a habit to congratulate yourself for making the effort to be the best you can be. Even if you don't feel you've done your best, congratulate yourself anyway and soon, very soon you'll be doing your best every day.

July 19 - Quick Tips

Health:
Repeating.  Next time you have a blood test, ask your Dr. to include a C-Reactive Protein test. CRP.  Also ask him why you should have your inflammation level checked.  Recent research indicates that it may promote chronic diseases including heart disease. It is probably more important than Cholesterol.

Wealth:
Leave the ATM card at home.  It is much too easy to pull out that card for even a small item that you see in a Convenience store or when eating out.  Carry a small amount of cash, as much as you budgeted for the day.  You do budget, don't you?

Nutrition: (replaces 'diet' in all new Quick Tips)
Believe it or not frozen veggies might be more nutritious than fresh.  They are frozen fresh from the garden patch, really.  Also I've found them much tastier than the ones I leave in the crisper a bit too long.

Exercise:
Sign up for a dance class.  Purchase a good exercise video and invite a few friends in for a couple routines and some good friendly chatter.

Style:
Sales, sales, sales.  Retail, brick and mortar stores as well as Internet sites are making room for Fall styles arriving even as I wrote this.  Hurry to the site, of your choice and snag up some of those great bargains on summer clothes.  You still have time to wear them and they will be like new next summer.

Vitamin D is being called, 'The Happiness Vitamin'.  Just 1,000IU daily raises your serotonin level and boosts your mood.

Eggs rev up your metabolism to burn calories.  A U of Utah study found they  prevent your body from losing lean calorie burning muscle.

Exercise:
Watching TV, do leg lifts as you sit.  Combine them with arm rolls, and deep breathing for a easy sitting exercise.  During commercials, stand up and march in place.

Makeup:
Pamper your skin and make it glow with a face smoothing scrub.  One tsp yogurt mixed with one tsb of sugar will do it.  Sugar will remove dead cells and yogurt will bring on a glow.

Inspiration:

Quick Tips - May 26th

Health:
Boost your levels of Glutahione, known as the body's master antioxidant and detoxifer.  It neutralizes free radicals and protects cell membrane and DNA from damage.  Foods high in glutathione are avocado, watermelon, asparagus, grapefruit, acorn squash, orange, tomato and cantaloupe.  Turmeric and Garlic are highly recommended.

Wealth:
Ask your credit card company to lower your interest rate.  With CC competition at an all time high, they may do it to keep you as a customer.  A tip I recently read was to run your laundry through a 2d spin since the washer uses less power than a dryer.

Diet:
Less than 5 hours of sleep per night has been shown to add weight. A study of more than 68,000 women at Case Western Reserve U. found that those who sleep less than 5 hours a night gain more weight over time than those who sleep 7 hours a night.

If you have trouble falling asleep try
Natural Factors Tranquil Sleep is a safe, fast acting sleep aid.

Exercise:
Believe it or not, vigorous exercise will also boost your glutathione levels, so get going and move it, move it, move it.

Style:

One piece bathing suits are the best option for the plus size figure.  When selecting, it is suggested choosing a monochrome color with maybe a small print on one side of the suit for best slimming options.

Spiritual:
"All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him". Buddha

Quick Tips 4 U - April 19 -

Health:
Have you been introduced to 'Tapping for Healing"?  This simple technique, which literally involves "tapping" on the meridian points of our body while saying certain statements, is providing uniquely powerful results.  I've learned the technique and have to say, I'm very impressed.  Just think, you can tap away pain and stress.  Click here to check it out.  It's amazing what it can do.
Tapping for Healing

Wealth:
There is also a 'Tapping for Abundance' video that I've tried and can honestly say, my monthly tithe is increasing. The way it works, well you can watch the video to see how it works.  I'll include a link to it below.  I'm so positive that Tapping is more than a fad, it's working world wide.

Diet:
A diet high in protein may keep us fuller for longer and reduce overall intake of food.  A recent study published by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition  suggested that when following a higher protein diet, participants ate less overall calories, as well as feeling less hungry.  And it has been proven again and again, eating a well balanced  breakfast makes all the difference in not being hungry as much throughout the day.

Exercise:
It's get out and walk weather.  It's get out and garden weather.  It might even be 'spring cleaning' weather for some.  Let's get started with a daily outdoors routine that moves our bodies and lifts our souls.  Make it a good day and get outside and play.

Style:
Sandals in the morning, sandals in the evening, sandals anytime. I have found some of the best sandals in all styles, colors, prices, for women, men and kids.  I've categorized them by styles - casual, dressy, designer, vintage, men's, girls with prices listed.  Check out the web page for some ideas for your sandal shopping.

Spiritual:
"Every life is a story, make yours a best seller".

As I've been interviewing people for 'No Life Lived in Vain', I'm finding fascinating stories.  Maybe one day I can do yours.

May you be blessed with true happiness.

Quick Tips-March 10- 2012

Remember to Spring Forward tomorrow!  Daylight Saving Time.

Health:
Detox your body now and then to give your liver a break.  One way is with 'sarsaparilla'!  Believe it or not, research has confirmed sarsaparilla if loaded with plant sterols and other compounds that bind to chemicals and pollutants, transporting them out of your system and helping your liver function better.
(You can find Sarsaparilla capsules in the Nature's Way section of your grocery or drugstore)

Wealth:
This totally amazed me.  You can download free apps from ShopKick.com and CheckPoints.com to your smartphone.  When you enter a store like Target, Old Navy, Best Buy, etc you activate the app...you get points...then when you scan an item you get more points.  These points accumulate towards gift cards, discounts, etc.  You don't even have to buy anything.  I was overwhelmed at all the stores participating.  Now I have to get a smartphone.

Diet:
Give up white flour foods and sugar for a week to ten days.  See if early hunger signs or cravings don't go away.  I tried it and it worked.  I missed  toast with my breakfast egg ,but after two days I was okay with it.

Exercise:
Rev yourself up for exercise by spending a few minutes thinking about how good you will feel when you finish and how great you are going to look in your new spring outfit or summer swimsuit.  Actually visualize yourself doing a workout before you get to the workout.  Try it now, close your eyes, feel your body moving or walking briskly.  Really feel it.  Guess what, it's almost as good as actually working out.

Fashion & Style:

Sandal time is not that far away.  First things first, get your feet into prime condition.

If you have a Ped Egg---use it on dry skin before giving your feet an Epsom Salts foot bath.

Once skin and nails are softened, the pedicure will be easier.  Use cuticle cream around the nail beds and push back with an orange stick.

Trim and file nails.  Best to cut nails straight across.  Slather on some lotion, massage and let it soak in before using your favorite polish.

Beauty:
Brighten up your skin with a gentle morning wash.  You can use a exfoliating cleanser to get rid of the dead cells and give a fresh look to your skin. You can also use sugar and olive oil mixture.  A rough face cloth works too.  Follow with a good moisturizer that contains sun screen.

Spiritual:
"First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.

Epictetus -  Greek sage and Stoic philosopher

Health:
Incorporate celery and green peppers, proven memory boosters into your daily food plan. They contain high levels of luteolin that studies show can block inflammation linked to memory loss.
Wealth:
Not close to your bank's ATM and wants to omit ATM fees? There's always something you can use or might need at a nearby grocery or drug store where you can get cash back without fees.
Diet:
Cut 100 calories by mixing your juice with seltzer, low sodium club soda. I've mixed my juice half and half with no calorie iced tea.
Exercise:
I've found it much easier to do three 10 minute walking sessions a day, sometimes I do two 15 minutes-I found once I start I get inspired to go longer. It's the getting started that's hard.
Style:
Slip a ring around a long, stylish scarf, draped down the front. Tie a knot below the ring to secure.
Spiritual:
Allow yourself the opportunity to live the life you desire. Do not set limitations on yourself that are based on someone else's negativity.
