Beauty Trends - Quick Tips

Since letting my hair go to it's natural shade of gray, I needed to change my makeup.  Being on a make up budget, I started searching web sites to get the latest trends in make up.  I wanted what is today's best colors and buys.  I want to be up to date, not out of date.

Searching the web, I found that red lipstick is still in style but it is glossier and the perfect, in my budget lip color is COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick - Fairytale .  It has  a beautiful, rich color, with a smooth moisture base that keeps lips soft and silky.

Eye makeup is still in the 'cat's eye' style that seems to have been around since Cleopatra days.  At my age, softer is better.  Instead of black eyeliner, one of the articles I read suggested I use a softer gray.
I found one in a steel gray at my local drugstore cosmetic counter.  It's from Maybelline.

Soft, peachy with bronze cheeks is the trend right now, according to articles I read on several web sites I visited. Back at the drugstore, I liked the warm sunny glow of Neutrogena Natural Radiance - also available on Amazon.

Finally, as an older woman with drying skin, I looked for a moisturizer from a brand name I have used before and who's quality of ingredients I could depend on to be pure.  I've long been a Neutorgena user and so I went for Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair   I've only been using it a little while but I love the creamy smoothness of it when I use just a tiny bit after cleansing my face.

And of course I don't need to remind any Baby Boomers and beyond, less is always best.

Quick Tips-March 10- 2012

Remember to Spring Forward tomorrow!  Daylight Saving Time.

Health:
Detox your body now and then to give your liver a break.  One way is with 'sarsaparilla'!  Believe it or not, research has confirmed sarsaparilla if loaded with plant sterols and other compounds that bind to chemicals and pollutants, transporting them out of your system and helping your liver function better.
(You can find Sarsaparilla capsules in the Nature's Way section of your grocery or drugstore)

Wealth:
This totally amazed me.  You can download free apps from ShopKick.com and CheckPoints.com to your smartphone.  When you enter a store like Target, Old Navy, Best Buy, etc you activate the app...you get points...then when you scan an item you get more points.  These points accumulate towards gift cards, discounts, etc.  You don't even have to buy anything.  I was overwhelmed at all the stores participating.  Now I have to get a smartphone.

Diet:
Give up white flour foods and sugar for a week to ten days.  See if early hunger signs or cravings don't go away.  I tried it and it worked.  I missed  toast with my breakfast egg ,but after two days I was okay with it.

Exercise:
Rev yourself up for exercise by spending a few minutes thinking about how good you will feel when you finish and how great you are going to look in your new spring outfit or summer swimsuit.  Actually visualize yourself doing a workout before you get to the workout.  Try it now, close your eyes, feel your body moving or walking briskly.  Really feel it.  Guess what, it's almost as good as actually working out.

Fashion & Style:

Sandal time is not that far away.  First things first, get your feet into prime condition.

If you have a Ped Egg---use it on dry skin before giving your feet an Epsom Salts foot bath.

Once skin and nails are softened, the pedicure will be easier.  Use cuticle cream around the nail beds and push back with an orange stick.

Trim and file nails.  Best to cut nails straight across.  Slather on some lotion, massage and let it soak in before using your favorite polish.

Beauty:
Brighten up your skin with a gentle morning wash.  You can use a exfoliating cleanser to get rid of the dead cells and give a fresh look to your skin. You can also use sugar and olive oil mixture.  A rough face cloth works too.  Follow with a good moisturizer that contains sun screen.

Spiritual:
"First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.
